Presenter: Jonathan White
1 HR CE, APAC-BE #145 1 CEU, ACTCP 1 Elective, AIA #APA/CES 328 1 LU|HSW, ICC #45671 .10 CEU

Description: This course explores the research that underpins the A117.1 and other standards and explains the process for how new research informs the standards. Using examples from the previous standards cycle, attendees will learn the reasons behind the major changes to the building blocks in the 2017 A117.1 Standard. Participants will leave the session better equipped to implement the 2017 A117.1 in states where it is required, or will soon become mandatory, and better equipped to explain the rationale to clients.

LO1: At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to explain the history of the ICC A117.1 standard and its relationship to other accessibility codes and standards.
LO2: At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to identify specific dimensional requirements of the building blocks section of the 2017 A117.1 standard.
LO3: At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to list three examples of how research informed changes in the 2017 A117.1 standard.
LO4: At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to identify areas where the 2017 A117.1 standard still does not address the needs of certain segments of the population.
