Biography
John Rife Torkelson is a founding member and several time past president of the APA/TRASA.
As a nationally recognized expert in accessibility, he sees the benefit of a strong national organization representing accessibility code experts. The APA should be at the table in the development process for accessibility codes and standards, helping to give voice to the process of applying what is written. The APA should be on the leading edge of educating accessibility consultants through training and encouraging others to enter the profession.
John is licensed with the State of Texas and California; is an Accessibility/Usability Specialist with the International Code Council; and, is a recognized expert on Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Act (FHA). In addition, he has acted as a third party expert working on behalf of both the Plaintiff and Defense with clients as varied as the United States Department of Justice, The Equal Rights Center and the National Fair Housing Alliance
